The Most Stolen Cars in America

It's surprising but thieves are actually concerned with fuel efficiency. Cars that are most targeted by thieves include family cars like the Honda and Accord, mainly due to their great gas mileage and valuable parts. Thieves actually like the strip these cars for their parts and then sell them off. It's not just imports that are targeted, domestic brands like Ford are becoming big hits with thieves too. The F-150 and Ford Explorer are both often targeted.

Thieves are also attracted to rims, chrome and lots of bling. Cars with a lot of horsepower are also very attractive. If you don't want to be a victim then it's best to keep your car as low key as possible. Don't put any flashy or blinged out rims on your ride. When it comes to theft, no other state comes close to California. Fresno, Modesto, Bakersfield, Spokane, Vallejo, Sacramento, Stockton, Visalia, San Francisco/Oakland and Yakima are the cities with the most number of thefts in the nation.

Fresno, Modesto, Spokane and Vallejo all have experienced a higher number of theft since 2009. The states that follow California with the most thefts are: Texas, Florida, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Arizona, Maryland, Georgia and Nevada.

It's not all doom and gloom; car theft has actually decreased significantly within the past few years. The statistics show a decline of 7.2 percent since 2009. This is in part because modern cars are now harder to steal. Many come with GPS and high tech alarm systems which makes it much harder for thieves to break in.

American cars that are very popular with thieves include the Ford F-150, Explorer and Chevy Silverado Autel Diaglink. The Toyota Camry is also a big hit with thieves apparently Autel MaxiPRO MP808TS.

There are a few things you can do in order to prevent theft. One of them is having a kill switch installed in your car. This way the engine will only start if the key sends a signal to the computer. Other things you can do include parking in a garage which is always safer than parking outdoors. Make sure you don't park in a neighborhood that is known for theft. Don't forget to lock your doors. Many people won't lock their doors if they are running into the gas station or store but it's important to always lock them no matter what Autel MaxiCOM MK808.

The Lojack system includes a receiver and transponder. The transponder is hidden in the car and the receiver is installed on the dashboards of police cars. When the car is stolen, the owner is supposed to notify the police. The police turn on the transponder which sends out a signal which is received by the receiver in the police car. Lights on the receiver guide police to the location of the car.

Other anti-theft, recovery systems use GPS technology. When the car is stolen the GPS system in the car allows an operator at a computer screen to follow the movement of the vehicle. Police are given directions to the vehicle.

Auto thefts are down to a 25 year low of nearly 57 percent partly because of systems like the GPS products and the Lojack systems. Moreover, auto manufacturers are now including anti-theft devices with their cars. Moreover, some factory systems have the ability to find the stolen vehicle using GPS technology.
